History
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky started practice in the Etobicoke community in 2000, after graduating from the University of Toronto’s ophthalmology residency program and completing subspecialty training in uveitis at McGill University and the University of Toronto. She began operating under the Vista Eye Centre name in 2007.
In order to pursue her academic interests in ophthalmic research and teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky moved her practice to the Kensington Vision and Research Centre in 2014. In 2019, she moved her practice back to the Bloor West community of Toronto, with the goal of bringing her experiences in state-of the art ophthalmic care back to the community where her family grew up, and to be closer to St. Joseph’s Health Centre, which is her main hospital affiliation.

Dr. Larissa Derzko-Dzulynsky, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Larissa Derzko-Dzulynsky is a highly respected and skilled physician with over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and is on staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Kensington Eye Institute and St. Michael's Hospital. Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. Her practice consists of comprehensive ophthalmology, uveitis and cataract surgery.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS) at the University of Toronto and a highly respected and skilled physician with over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology. She completed her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowship training in uveitis at McGill University and post-fellowship training in retina and uveitis at the University of Toronto. Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is a staff physician at St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2000 as well as Kensington Eye Institute and St. Michael’s Hospital. She was appointed Chief of the Uveitis Service, DOVS in 2013 and Chief of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in 2019. She performs cataract surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and the Kensington Eye Institute
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky’s practice consists of comprehensive ophthalmology with a focus on uveitis and cataract surgery. She is currently accepting referrals for comprehensive ophthalmology, uveitis and cataract surgery.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky actively participates in resident clinical and surgical teaching in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. She teaches medical students as well as ophthalmology and rheumatology residents and fellows. Over the past 10 years, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky has trained a number of international fellows in uveitis through her involvement in the medical retina fellowship program at the DOVS. She won the Dr. Michael Shea award for resident teaching at St. Michael’s Hospital in June 2017.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is involved in uveitis research and has recently published papers on wait times for uveitis consults in Toronto (in collaboration with Dr. Bakshi), and a study on clinical features of infectious posterior uveitis at St. Michael’s Hospital. Previous publications include cataract surgery outcomes in uveitis, glaucoma and uveitis early detection of spondyloarthropathy in uveitis patients and IgG4 panuveitis. Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky was primary investigator on a resident-led multidisciplinary and translational research project on PCR utilization in anterior uveitis cases, which was awarded a grant from the DOVS Pilot Research Grant Competition in December 2016. She is currently working on another multidisciplinary research project with rheumatologists at St. Michael’s Hospital, on pathways of care for patients with uveitis in Ontario.
In addition to teaching of medical trainees and research, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky has presented on various topics in uveitis at various local, national and international uveitis meetings. She has also presented results of her research and mentored students who have presented such results at various ophthalmology meetings. Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS) and Canadian representative at the International Ocular Inflammation Society and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Canadian Uveitis Society (CUS) and the American Uveitis Society (AUS). Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky has organized uveitis sections of local, national and international ophthalmology meetings, including the annual DOVS Walter Wright symposium, COS Annual meetings and the IOIS biennial meetings.
Throughout her career, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky has been a strong patient advocate in uveitis. She was the ophthalmology representative on an Ontario Task Force for Uveitis Care that established standardized criteria for immunomodulatory treatment for uveitis (MOHTLC Exceptional Access Program) in 2017 and a standardized communication tool for ophthalmologists and rheumatologists. During her term as President of the Canadian Uveitis Society from 2010-2013, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky worked closely with the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and the Ontario Rheumatology Association to increase awareness of uveitis at the provincial and federal government levels.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky speaks English, French and Ukrainian fluently and is able to communicate with patients in Polish, Russian and other Slavic languages. In her free time, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky enjoys cycling, skiing, traveling and spending time with her husband and 3 children.

Dr. Nupura Bakshi, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Nupura Bakshi is a well-recognized retina and uveitis specialist, in practice for over 10 years in Toronto and Mississauga. Dr. Bakshi is on staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Kensington Eye Institute, St. Michael’s Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Bakshi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Dept. of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. Her practice consists of medical retina, posterior uveitis and cataract surgery.
Dr. Nupura Bakshi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS) at the University of Toronto. She completed her undergraduate degree, medical school, and her residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowships in both Retina and Uveitis at the renowned National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Bakshi joined St. Joseph’s Health Centre as a staff physician in December 2018. She is also an active staff clinician at St. Michael’s Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital, where she leads the Retina service. She has performed cataract surgery at Kensington Eye Institute since 2011.
Dr. Bakshi’s practice focuses on medical disease of the retina and vitreous, posterior uveitis, and cataract surgery. She is currently accepting medical retina and cataract referrals.
Dr. Bakshi is extensively involved in the medical and surgical education of medical students, residents, and fellows at the University of Toronto. She runs academic subspecialty teaching clinics at Mount Sinai and St. Michael’s Hospitals, and is also the Site Director for the residency program at St. Michael’s Hospital. She has a special interest in surgical education and has been the Director of the Surgical Skills Lab at the DOVS since 2016. Dr. Bakshi is a sought-after lecturer and teacher. She has also trained several international fellows through her involvement as a preceptor in the medical retina fellowship program.
Since 2012, Dr. Bakshi has received 6 teaching awards for her efforts in both medical and surgical teaching of residents and fellows.
Dr. Bakshi is involved in research in the areas of retinal vascular diseases, uveitis, and retinopathy of prematurity. In collaboration with Dr. Derzko, she has also published papers on wait times for uveitis consults in Toronto, and a study on clinical features of infectious posterior uveitis at St. Michael’s Hospital. Dr. Bakshi is also an associate investigator in a translational research project studying PCR utilization in anterior uveitis cases. Dr. Bakshi is also the co-principal investigator of a quality improvement initiative on retinopathy of prematurity screening at Mount Sinai Hospital, which was awarded the DOVS Quality Improvement Research Grant in 2018.
Dr. Bakshi is a highly regarded lecturer and speaker. She has given multiple lectures on retinal disease and uveitis at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Most recently, she was an invited speaker and panelist at the Canadian Retina Society Annual Meeting in 2018 and 2019.
Dr. Bakshi also strongly believes in the importance of continuing medical education. She frequently attends Canadian and international conferences to remain up to date on cutting edge diagnostics and treatments. She was on the Scientific Planning Committee for the Canadian Ocular Imaging Symposium in 2019. She also recently began the New and Evolving Academic Leaders Program, at the Centre for Faculty Development at the University of Toronto. This competitive leadership training program aims to foster productive, visionary, and collaborative academic leaders.
Dr. Bakshi is fluent in English and Kannada and is able to communicate with patients reasonably well in French and Hindi. In her free time, Dr. Bakshi enjoys reading, cooking, yoga, traveling, and spending time with her husband and young daughter.

Dr. Ziad Butty, MBChB, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Ziad Butty is a highly respected and skilled physician in Ophthalmology and is on staff at St Joseph's Health Science Centre,Unity Health Network. His practice consists of medical and surgical Glaucoma and Cataract surgery.
Dr. Ziad Butty is a lecturer at the University of Toronto, Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS). He completed a Glaucoma Clinical Fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Toronto and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2016. He previously completed two university diplomas in Glaucoma and Ocular Infections and Inflammations at the Xavier Bichat and Pitie-Salpetriere Universities, Paris, France. Dr Butty completed his MD degree in 2005 from the University of Al-Mustansiriyah, Baghdad, Iraq.
Dr. Butty’s practice focuses on medical and surgical Glaucoma and Cataract surgery. He is currently accepting new referrals with Cataracts and surgical Glaucoma.
Dr. Ziad Butty has a strong interest and actively participates in medical students and resident clinical and surgical teaching at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Ziad Butty is passionate about serving First Nations and under-serviced communities in Northern Ontario and devotes time every year to the CNIB Eye Van. He also started the Syrian refugee clinic at the Kensington Eye Institute in Toronto and has participated in international ophthalmology missions including the Urban Angels Medical Mission to the Philippines.
Dr. Ziad Butty is an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS) , the Canadian Glaucoma Society (CGS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).
His research interests are in the area of Glaucoma screening, early Glaucoma detection, optic nerve imaging, visual fields and new Glaucoma surgical devices. Dr. Butty is a Consultation Specialist for Glaucoma section for Statistics Canada: Vision component (Visual fields section) for the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). Dr. Butty had a big role in the The Toronto epidemiology glaucoma survey.
Dr. Ziad Butty speaks English, French and Arabic fluently. In his free time, He enjoys art, sports, traveling and spending quality time with family, friends and his partner.

Dr. Austin Pereira, MD MEng FRCSC
Dr Austin Pereira is an award-winning, fellowship-trained medical retina and uveitis specialist and cataract surgeon. He is on staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and holds an appointment with the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. His practice consists of medical retina, uveitis, ocular inflammatory diseases, and cataract surgery.
Dr. Austin Pereira is a medical retina and uveitis specialist, as well as cataract surgeon, affiliated with the University of Toronto. As a fellowship-trained medical retina and ocular inflammation specialist, Dr. Pereira offers a unique practice encompassing surgical management of complex cataracts, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of rare retinal and posterior uveitis disease entities.
Dr. Pereira completed his medical training at the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Golden Stethoscope Award as one of the top clinical clerks, as well as the Dr. Mark Cohen Ophthalmology Award given to the graduating student showing special promise in becoming an outstanding clinician. While in medical school, Dr. Pereira completed a Masters of Engineering degree at the University of Toronto Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, where he developed skills in bringing innovative surgical devices and medications to life.
Dr. Pereira continued his residency training at the University of Toronto. Over 5 years, he mastered his craft in completing cataract surgeries requiring complex anterior segment approaches, as well as cultivated his passion for retina and ocular inflammation. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Duncan Jamieson Memorial Prize and Woywitka Cup Award, which is given to the Ophthalmology resident with the highest academic standing over five years of residency training. Following residency, Dr. Pereira completed the prestigious Medical Retina and Uveitis Fellowship and the University of Toronto, where he cultivated his skills in diagnosing and treating rare, complex retinal and posterior uveitis pathology. During his fellowship, Dr. Pereira was named the Chief Fellow at the University of Toronto.
Beyond his training, Dr. Pereira is passionate about medical education for his peers and learners worldwide. He was awarded the illustrious PARO Resident Teaching Award, given to the resident physician who provides outstanding clinical training to their junior residents and medical students. He also is the co-founder of OCTcases.com, a worldwide training tool for ophthalmology trainees to practice their skills in interpreting optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging. This training tool has been awarded multiple grants and awards worldwide. Dr. Pereira has also published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and has an active role in numerous multi-center clinical trials.
Dr. Pereira brings a fresh perspective to the full array of macular and peripheral retinal pathology. He also strives to tackle the most complex cataract surgeries and provide quality vision for all his patients. As an avid sportsman, he brings an energetic enthusiasm to the clinical space and thrives in a team-based setting. He is thrilled to be providing high-quality care to the community where he was born and raised.

Dr. Tiiu Hess, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Tiiu Hess is an experienced oculoplastic specialist, in practice for 5 years in Toronto. Dr. Tiiu Hess is on staff at Markham Stoufville Hospital and is expanding her practice in the Bloor West area. Her practice consists of general ophthalmology including eyelid medical, surgical and cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Hess is a board-certified Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery.
Dr. Hess grew up north of Newmarket and achieved her Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from McMaster University, graduating summa cum laude. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario, followed by residency at The University of Toronto. She then went on to complete a fellowship in Orbital, Lacrimal, and Oculoplastics Surgery at McMaster University under the mentorship of Dr. Yasser Khan.
She has offices in North York, Markham, and West Toronto, and has surgical privileges at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
She is an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. She has published in peer-reviewed journals on a variety of topics. She has taught residents and medical students both clinically and surgically and has been involved in examining Ophthalmology residents at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Hess has performed thousands of eyelid surgeries for very happy patients, including upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, ptosis, ectropion, entropion, excision of eyelid lesions, and lacrimal surgery, among others. She is a careful and meticulous surgeon, as well as a caring clinician.
Dr. Hess is fluent in English, French, and Estonian.
In her spare time, Dr. Hess enjoys running, skiing, playing piano, and spending time with her husband and 4 young children.

Dr. Eli Kisilevsky, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Kisilevsky is a comprehensive ophthalmologist providing care for all eye related concerns including cataracts, eyelid abnormalities, glaucoma and retina diseases.
Dr. Kisilevsky completed his training at the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences where he served as Chief Resident. He is active in medical education and research, training medical students and resident doctors at the University of Toronto. He presented his research work in international conferences and published in prestigious international medical journals including Retina, Cornea, Survey of Ophthalmology and JAMA Ophthalmology. Dr. Kisilevsky is accepting patients by referral. .
Dr. Cindy Lam MD, FRCSC
Dr. Cindy Lam’s areas of focus are comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and neuro-ophthalmology. Her clinical practice began in 2017. She is a lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto. Her practice is based in the west end at St Joseph’s Health Centre and the Vista Eye Centre, as well as at Kensington Vision & Research Centre, and the University Health Network.
Dr. Lam completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Toronto, where she was elected to serve as Chief Resident in her final year. She then pursued fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Lam is interested in medical student and resident education. She serves as the Associate Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, and is the surgical and clinical site director for the Residency Program at the Kensington Eye Institute. She sits on the Residency Program Committee for the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Lam is also active in research, with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests include topics on intraocular lens implants and perioperative fasting, as well as neuro-ophthalmologic diseases such as non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
Dr. Daniel Li, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Daniel Li is a highly skilled general ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon. He completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, followed by a Retina Research Fellowship, and later completed his Ophthalmology Residency at McGill University, where he served as Co-Chief Resident.
Dr. Li has made significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology, with over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at more than 20 national and international conferences. He is an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In addition to his community practice at Vista Eye Care, Dr. Li is a staff ophthalmologist at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He is currently welcoming new referrals for comprehensive eye care and cataract surgery
Dr. Li speaks English, French, and Mandarin. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Li is also a talented pianist and composer, with over 5 million streams across music platforms.
